Open two battery compartments at the bottom of the lid and insert 4 batteries of type LR20/R20/AA(mono batteries) and make sure that the polarity is correct(+/-).
Turn on the power switch at the bottom of the lid. The red indicator light will stay on for 3 seconds, and then flash once every three seconds to show it is in working order.
When you need to open the bin hold your hand about 15-20cm above the infrared panel. The lid will then opens automatically within 0.5 second, and close again automatically within 5 seconds of moving your hand away. If you do not move your hand away the lid will stay open
The indicator light in the normal waiting state flashes red (once every three seconds). When the lid opens automatically, the indicator light shows green. When batteries are low, the indicator light will flash yellow once every three seconds
